Botanica Path

Derby resident Shirley Carrick's painting "Botanica Path," oil on canvas, is on display at the Derby Public Library as part of a new art exhibit. The exhibit will run through the end of July.

A new art exhibition is open at the Derby Public Library.

Organized by the Derby Arts Council, the new exhibit is called “Pastiche,” which Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines as an artistic composition made up of selections from different works.

Artists from the Kansas Academy of Oil Painters used pastels, acrylics and oils to create the 46 pieces on display at the library’s gathering space gallery. The exhibit will run through July 28.

“The variety of subjects and media the artists have selected creates an interesting and visually appealing presentation,” states a release by Tami English, chair of the Derby Arts Council.

Derby artist Shirley Carrick has three pieces for sale as part of the exhibit, all created with oil paint on canvas: “Tumbling Waters,” “Waterloo Park,” and “Botanica Path.”

Carrick has an another piece on display called “High Park” that is not for sale, but interested buyers can purchase an unframed copy through the Derby Senior Center.

The Kansas Academy of Oil Painters was formed in 1985 with support from the Wichita Center for the Arts. To gain membership to the academy, applicants must submit 10 digital images of their work for the board of directors to judge.

The Derby Arts Council will host a reception to honors the artists involved in the exhibit from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13 in the library’s gathering space gallery and community room.

Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend and meet the artists.
