Darrell Crosby, 87, passed on May 4, 2019 after battling COPD. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby. Inurnment will be at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio at a later date.
Darrell was a graduate of Stivers High School in Dayton, Ohio where he played football. He then enlisted in the Army during the Korean conflict with the 66 ENGR TOPO CO CORPS. Darrell married Mary F. Binkert in 1954. After serving in the Army, he went to work at Delco Corp. and enrolled at the University of Dayton.
He had a passion for the outdoors, camping, reading and was also an Eagle Scout Master. NCR transferred his job from Dayton, Ohio to Wichita in 1972.
He served as a city councilman for Derby in Ward 3 and also served on the Derby Planning Committee for parks in the 1980's. Darrell was on the board of Elder's and building committee for Faith Lutheran Church, also in the 1980’s.
He retired from NCR after 37 years and continued to camp, travel, support his WSU Shockers and spoil his granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by wife Mary, of 60 years; brother, Bob Crosby.
Survivors include daughter, Lynn Mauk (Dennis); son, Craig Crosby; granddaughters, Caitlin and Callie Mauk of Wichita, Brandi Stephenson (Milford) of Pearland, Texas; great-granddaughters, Georgia and Zoey Stephenson; brother, Bernard Crosby (Marilyn) of Dayton, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
